Franklin Mountain Bike Club is pleased to announce that weekly free lessons on the Pump Track are to begin at 5:30pm on Tuesday 6 November.
These evenings are to be hosted by Clinton Williams and/or Niall Smith and aim to teach the basics of how to ride the new pump track facility at Puni Memorial Reserve. It is a casual evening.
These evenings are weather permitting, please check the home page of our website if the weather looks marginal – we will update it at about 3pm if in doubt.
They will generally be on as long as it is not pouring with rain.
Everybody welcome – look forward to seeing you there!
If possible could you please send an email to email@example.com to register your interest, or text Clinton on 021 751 871
The first official club working bee is scheduled for Sunday 18 November.
Start time approximately 9am and we be out there until 1pm then we will get the bbq out and have a casual lunch – sausages and bread (supplied).
At this stage we will more than likely concentrate in the bush section of the cross country track, we will confirm this closer to the time and see where the priorities lie.
At present the track could do with a good tidy up, so if anyone is keen to help before the scheduled date please contact Clinton Williams (see contacts) – it is a matter of grabbing a leaf blower (which we can supply) and blowing the pine needles off the track to start with.
Thanks to the Auckland Council we now have a drinking fountain and a water tap available to the riders!
The tap is located neat the top of the dirt road on the left just before the entrance to the pump track.
Also there is a public toilet available to us, this is located down near the BMX track. The middle cubicle is always unlocked (but you’d never know from a distance). Something to remember when you’re out riding.
Now that we have our website up and running we would really like to get some members on board. The membership fees are really reasonable – $25 for a family or $15 for an individual. See the membership page for the application form
We are hoping to offer things such as bi-monthly club rides and the occassional coaching day or fun day locally during some of the months when there are no club rides scheduled.
Also if anyone has any skills or supplies they could offer the club that would be greatly appreciated. We are hoping/needing to build a few bridges at the bottom of the bush cross country section to make navigating through there easier. So we’d like to put a call out for building supplies or drainage pipe if anyone is able to source anything.
On Friday 29 September and Thursday 4 October we have had a small digger in to help create the new extension to the Pump track at Puni Memorial Reserve.
We also got the top section of the cross country track scraped so now it is much more obvious where the track goes!
We were lucky with the weather both days – the rain held off until the digger had left (luckily for us).
A few of the crew will be out over the next few weekends to finish shaping up the humps to make this new pump track extension ridable, if anyone is free to lend a hand please let Clinton or Niall know. Continue reading
